But given Quantum Break’s delay and the fact that AW2 still only really exists as a “what could have been” series of gameplay clips and concept art, it’s likely a long way off, wherever it might land.įollow me on Twitter, like my page on Facebook, and pick up a copy of my sci-fi novel, The Last Exodus, and its sequel, The Exiled Earthborn, along with my new Forbes book, Fanboy Wars. It may not be a blockbuster franchise, but it’s a welcome change-up from the frenetic pace and overloaded gunplay of many other games. Remedy Entertainments previous endeavors, Max Payne and Alan Wake were both designed with in-house engines created by Remedy. The first game produced with the Northlight Engine was Quantum Break, an Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive title. Given the reception of the first game and Remedy’s obvious interest in a sequel, Alan Wake 2 seems like an all-around great idea, and it would be a boon to any system it was released for. The Northlight Engine is the in-house game engine created by Remedy Entertainment. But that process is likely going to go through some growing pains, and I’m unsure if Quantum Break will be a hit or miss as it tries new things. I love when developers try to push hard into uncharted territory and I believe there is a future in which TV shows and video games are inescapably intertwined. I still don’t know what to make of Quantum Break. Whatever happens with Alan Wake 2, it seems clear that Xbox is the only place you’ll ever be able to play the original. They’re free to surf the market as they see fit once Quantum Break wraps.Īs for a new-gen port? Even if the concept is getting tired, Alan Wake is one game I would like to play on Xbox One, as it did slip by me on 360. Remedy isn’t 343 who is now married to a Microsoft staple like Halo. We were treated to a demo of a Quad machine running Remedys unreleased follow-up to Max Payne, Alan Wake. Not releasing on PS4, the most dominant console in the landscape at present, is a tough proposition for any developer. Intel officially revealed the name of Kentsfield this morning, and branded it Core 2 Quad. As Lake says, it’s ultimatly a business decision, and the fact is, unless Microsoft is paying Remedy a truckload of money to stay in their exclusive roster, it is likely going to make sense that they’d want to sell Alan Wake 2 on both Xbox One and PS4, especially given how many systems the latter has sold since launch. Not bad for a 15 dollar game and you can expect another awesome. Its supposedly coming out next month and playtime is around 4-5 hours. Oskari from Remedy is at CES showing off American Nightmare and its looking pretty great. Hence why a possible future conversion to multiplatform might be in the cards. Alan Wake E3 09 Extended Gameplay Footage (2 of 2) Posted Jan 11, 2010. Did a search, didnt find anything so hope this isnt old. It existed as a quality Xbox exclusive beloved by those who played it, but it didn’t exactly become one of Microsoft’s power franchises either. Motion-capture showed the actor holding a flashlight and a revolver, however, so players might be able to expect a similar approach to combat as in Alan Wake, where shadowy enemies needed to be burned with light and then fired upon.In a way, that was true of the original Alan Wake as well, a third person mystery game that shockingly, didn’t focus heavily on shooting people as its primary form of gameplay. This may imply that malevolent crow swarms will make a return, but any news about potential combat mechanics or any gameplay has yet to be shared. In the final piece of concept art shared, Alan stands ominously in the middle of a street, where shadowy birds can be seen. Such few details are known about Alan Wake 2 aside from the mood-setting imagery that has been depicted thus far. This may purely be a concept that never makes it to a fully fleshed-out character in Alan Wake 2, but it could also be intentionally shown to offer fans a first look at one its major antagonists. But most interestingly among the concept art is one of a furnace or basement with a burst pipe that floods the room, while in a shadow there is a creepy elderly woman sewing red fabric together. In an announcement video that was admittedly expected ages ago, Remedy Entertainment announces the Alan Wake Remaster, a remastered version of 2010s.
